God is a Healer. He yearns for you to receive healing. In order for you to receive healing from Him, you must be fully persuaded of His will to heal you. For “the prayer of faith shall save the sick” (James 5:15).If there is any doubt, or unresolved question in your mind, concerning God’s will to heal you, that doubt will be a roadblock to you receiving (see James 1:5-7).
The Scripture says, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him” (1 Jn. 5:14-15).
The key to receiving from God is knowing what His will is, what He has promised you, before asking Him for it in prayer. The Bible is very clear concerning God’s will to heal you. Here are three simple reasons why we know it is the perfect will of God for you to be made whole.
- God’s Covenant of Healing With His People
- The Ministry of Jesus Christ
God’s Covenant of Healing With His People
God established a covenant with His People in Exodus 15:26 when He said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statures, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” A covenant is an indissoluble agreement and can never be annulled. The children of Israel believed and “there was none feeble among His tribes” (Ps. 105:37). David rejoiced about this covenant with God’s people when he exclaimed, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases” (Ps. 103:2-3). God forgives all our sins. And He heals all our diseases!
The Ministry of Jesus Christ
Jesus’ life and ministry was the will of God in action. Jesus said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (Jn. 14:9). Jesus also said, “I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me” (Jn. 14:30). Everything Jesus did was a perfect reflection of the nature and will of God.
A very large portion of Jesus’ ministry was dedicated to healing the sick. Acts 10:38 declares that “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Notice the New Testament teaches that it is the devil who oppresses people with sickness, not God. Jesus healed all who were oppressed by the devil. Look at the following verses describing Jesus’ ministry to the sick:
- “They brought to Him all sick people…and He healed them.” (Mt. 4:24)
- “And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick. (Mt. 8:16)
- “And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all.” (Mt. 12:15)
- “When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them.” (Lk. 4:40)
Jesus always healed everyone who came to Him for healing. There is not one example of anyone being denied healing when they came to Jesus with sincere faith. And what He did in His earthly ministry, He desires to do for you. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Heb. 13:8).
The Redemptive Work of Christ
God’s greatest demonstration of love, mercy, and healing for all humankind, including you, is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ on your behalf.
On the cross, God laid on His Son Jesus our sin, the guilt and evil consequences of our sin, and the punishment for our sin. The Hebrew language of Isaiah 53 is very clear that:
- Jesus “has borne our sicknesses and carried away our pains.” (v.4)
- Jesus was “stricken (struck, plagued, diseased, wounded), smitten by God, and afflicted.” (v.4)
- The punishment needed to bring us peace (completeness, soundness, health, prosperity, wellness, and tranquility) was put upon Him. (v.5)
- “And by His stripes we are healed.” (v.5)
In His death, Jesus became your substitute, bearing all your sins, sicknesses, diseases, pains, disabilities, emotional issues, and poverty. He was buried with them and put them away. But He rose from the dead without them. In His resurrection, Jesus completely stripped and defeated your adversary and oppressor, Satan. Your healing has been purchased. It is your inheritance.
Receive Your Healing Today
The scripture is clear. The Lord God is your healer right now. It’s your covenant right. Jesus Christ who healed all who came to Him is the same for you right now. He has the same will, the same word, the same love, and the same power for you. And finally He purchased your healing by His atoning death on the cross. What Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross was for everyone, including you.
Thus you can be confident in prayer because His will is sure. And “this is the confidence we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will (healing is His will), He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” We have it! Before we see it, hear it, feel it, or experience it, we have it.
Prayer for Healing
Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ. You are Almighty God, the creator of the heavens and the earth. Nothing is too difficult for you. I thank you for your word. Your word makes it clear that you desire me to be healed. This is your covenant. Jesus is the same today, my healer. And He paid the price for me, bearing all my sins, sicknesses and diseases on the cross. I ask you to fulfill your word in my life by healing me now. I believe that I receive healing from you now. By Jesus’ stripes, I am healed. Thank you, Father. Be glorified in my life.
